How to start and manage your community

Just wanted to share this short brilliant talk about leadership and community management by Dere Sivers. A few lessons to learn for the community managers:

  • You have to make it easy for people to follow you
  • You have to become “equal”  with people who follow you and know how to transfer the sentiment.
  • You have to remember that followers attract more followers – not the leader.

I hope you enjoyed this video and have a great Easter everyone!

Simple presentation with a profound message. Thanks! As a community manager I always put purpose first, people follow and product is in last place. When people don't have a purpose, or aren't mission focused the social component will suffer. I recently talked about some real complaints about facebook. With all the social media tools now available I think we must focus on content(purpose) as much as we do technology. Please see: http://www.dynamicalsoftware.com/facebook/socia
