Come Discover USC! During my visit that is last to Metro DC area

I worked at one of our Discover USC programs. We host these programs for prospective students across the world to ensure students and families gain helpful information about USC and our application process. Although we might love for everyone to check out USC, we realize it’s simply not feasible, so we decide to try our most useful to bring a bit of USC to you!

During Discover programs we hope to present ourselves as organized and professional. That generally means we appear extra-early, run around like crazy people ensuring the brochures we sent ahead of time have actually arrived, curse at non-functioning technology, while having the hotel manager’s quantity on speed dial. Luckily for me, this amount of time in D.C., there clearly was no digging through offices and mail rooms to get our boxes of materials, our Power Point miraculously worked, and we were ready to go before the first family arrived (there is constantly one that arrives at least a half hour early!) We recognize that families invest a lot of the time information that is attending, touring campuses, and filling away applications, so we want to ensure we are providing the best information into the most efficient way at all our events. We usually also provide some wonderful USC alums lend hand when they’re available. We always question my entire life alternatives when I listen to exactly what our alums are up to. Legislation school at Georgetown…working for the CIA….no big deal.

I was scheduled to talk quickly at this program. A big part of my task is public speaking; I give presentations to high school students in auditoriums, classrooms, and career centers constantly. So I have always been generally very comfortable talking up to a group. That stuff doesn’t anymore faze me. Nonetheless, put me in a hotel ball space using the Dean of Admission (my boss’s boss’s boss) and ask me to speak, and I’ll feel a bit nervous ( just a tad!)

It was great to see a few familiar faces of students I had met at high schools that week. I talked with one household who had driven about four hours to wait! That you have to make that sacrifice while we loved that the family was there, please don’t feel. If we aren’t coming to a city in your area, please feel free to just let your admission counselor understand that you want more information but can not attend a Discover program.

Once our formal presentation is finished there is the opportunity to inquire and hear from admission counselors from academic divisions. Pupils can split into groups according to area of interest and have major related questions as well. I heard from many families have been having their first experience with USC that evening. Several other parents shared with me personally that they had currently been to USC, but they learned one thing new which somehow changed their perspective on the college application process or about USC. I also talked with a parent who showed up to have some information that is outdated USC or had accumulated some information based on another person’s experience. This is an opportunity that is great moms and dads to refresh their knowledge and discover about present time USC.

One of the final, and something of my personal favorite, comments I been aware of the was ‘now I understand why we have all so much college spirit! night’ A job well done on our part.

At Discover USC! Maybe you will learn something new…you never know if we are coming to a city near you, or if you will be in Los Angeles on November 22nd, please come visit us!

Mythbuster: the SAT can be taken by me or ACT right before the admission deadline

The Myth: I can take the SAT or ACT right before the admission due date plus it shall be fine.

The Verdict: Not an idea that is great. The test may not allow it to be into the application with time for review.

With our December 1 deadline approaching, it really is almost that time of year when our office is sent thousands of applications, transcripts, test scores and letters of recommendation. Honestly, it is amazing that every thing gets placed into each and every student’s application file given the volume that is high of we receive.

It is essential to realize that it takes a significant timeframe for all application materials become organized and downloaded as a student’s application file- especially test scores. Think about it. SAT and ACT offer certain test times and dates. Then they need to score those tests, send you your score, and send the score then to all the colleges on your list. This takes a huge amount of time on the end, also it takes several weeks on our end to download and process the scores.

Invest the a standardized test right before the admission deadline, it can occupy to two weeks from the moment the test is scored to be downloaded into your application file. That could be far too late. Our staff has from 1 until early January to review ALL the applications submitted by our December 1 merit scholarship deadline december. We will accept scores that are submitted after the deadline, but keep in mind we need official test scores before we could review a pupil’s application.

You will would also like to make sure you arrange for all of your other application materials become sent on time. Your school is very busy at this time of year as they deliver transcripts to hundreds of colleges. On top of grading tests and papers, your teachers are writing letters of recommendation for you personally by themselves time. You shall wish to provide everybody advance notice of admission deadlines when they need to submit materials on your own behalf. Your instructors and counselors will actually be thankful! If you let them have the required time, they will be capable of getting us your transcript on time and compose thoughtful suggestions.

You shall be able to check on the application materials through your shmoop pro portal. Keep in mind that our company is processing hundreds of several thousand papers, so any application pieces you distribute won’t appear in your portal instantly. Please wait a business that is few before contacting us if it appears like something is missing.

Application processing is just a task that is huge a lot of moving parts. The ship will sail efficiently if students be mindful of their application materials beforehand, and at the time that is same can get rocky and fall through the cracks if documents and materials are sent late. We thank you in advance for being courteous and submitting most of the job materials on time!
