Hi I am Giedrius Ivanauskas the researcher of Web 2.0 and Social Media. Social media is my hobby, work and my lifestyle. For me it all got started from reading David Armano’s blog with all these “green people” wondering around his presentations. All these aliens brought the idea not so alien to me – idea of transparency. I think transparency is absolute core of social media. It presents the shift in business moving from hard-sell through deceiving or even lying to selling trough love to the consumer. OK it may sound a bit cheesy, but that’s the reality. I always loved advertising but I was having a trouble with misleading the people in order to get the sale done and here came the social media which brought completely different approach to marketing and advertising, suddenly advertising companies became not the self obsessed dictators, but the servants and friends of the consumers. And that’s how it is supposed to be as at the end of the day the people give their hard earned cash for the businesses – not the advertisers. This shift in power from company to the consumer was analyzed by post modern marketing experts for years, but it has never been fully adopted until social media explosion. The recent examples of this power brought the idea of Social Media Citizens – people united by the idea of transparency and sharing. These two simple words are changing the future and that’s the future I want and that’s the future I will enjoy.
